NYC Cop Who Covered Up Louima's Torture Now In Halfway House

NEW YORK (AP) — A former police officer who helped cover up the torture of a Haitian immigrant in one of the city’s most notorious police brutality cases is finishing the remaining months of his prison sentence at a halfway house.
Charles Schwarz, 41, is scheduled to complete his five-year term for perjury in early May, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
He was transferred from a minimum-security federal prison camp in Duluth, Minnesota, to an undisclosed facility supervised by a community corrections office in Pittsburgh, according to Bureau of Prisons records.
"His frame of mind is excellent because he knows he only has a few more months, and he can take his wife and child and move and put this episode behind him completely," Schwarz’s lawyer, Ronald Fischetti, said Saturday. He said Schwarz did not plan to return to New York City — or to law enforcement — after his release.
